What You Need To Know About Barr. Lagi Innocent

Barr Lagi Innocent (BIL) was born on the 30th of March, 1971, to the family of Comr/Mrs Umaru Daniel Lagi in Jos, Plateau State. He is a Legal Practitioner and Activist.

He has worked as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ministry of Justice, Lafia Nasarawa State (2013-2014). A member, Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing Wamba Constituency (2008-1010).

Lagi has also served as National Legal Adviser, Labour Party (2002-2011). Program Officer, Justice and Peace Development Commission (JDPC) Abuja (2003). Program Officer, Ashoka Innovators for the Public (2002). Consulted
on the inclusion of the National Industrial Court for its jurisdiction into Nigerian constitution.

He Provided pro-bono legal representation for over 300 workers/union members that were sacked without compensation from institutions such as; Urban Mass Transit, Federal Housing Authority, NIMET, and Federal Ministry of Agriculture, etc.

The legal practitioner has worked and still works with human rights and electoral reform organizations in various advocacy capacities. Some of these organizations include Access to
Justice (AJ), Network of University Legal Aid Institutions (NULAI), Legal Research Initiative (LRI), amongst others. 

He is also a seasoned litigator and negotiator
with a thriving law practice.

From leading student struggles during the June 12 uprising, he was the first lower Plateau, now Nasarawa State, student to become President National Association of Plateau students.

Lagi has been a leading voice in public policy advocacy, and a human and electoral rights crusader since his active days in the University. He was an elected member of the Students’ Parliament (SUG) and the National President of
The Plateau State Students Association (NAPSS) (1995/1996).

At the Law School, Lagi was also elected to represent University of Jos at the Law School’s Students Representative Council (SRC) (1999-2000). 

During his mandatory 1-year national service in 1998, he taught criminal law at the Abia State University and was also appointed the Corps Liaison Official for Isuikwato LGA by the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) during the same period. 

He is currently the National Publicity Secretary of LP.
