College of Education Students Protest, Demand Lecturers To End Strike

Academic activities at the College of Education, Akwanga, Nasarawa State have been paralyzed following a strike by the joint unions of the institution over non-payment of promotion arrears and other entitlements of over N500m.

The College students took to the streets this morning to voice their displeasure over the looming strike. 

It was gathered that leaders of the three unions which include, Academic Staff Union, Non-Academic Staff Union and Senior Staff Union converged at the gate of the institution on 4th February, 2020 to ensure total compliance to the strike. 

The students said the action was frustrating and appealed to the state government to find a lasting solution to the incessant strikes.

Provost of the college, Dr. Rebeccah Issac who confirmed that the issue had lingered on for some time urged the unions to call off the strike for the benefit of students.

All offices and lecture halls has so far been shut down.
